A PGCET "cutoff" is the rank of the last candidate allotted a seat in a given college, specialisation and category, for a given counselling round. It is determined dynamically each year by candidate demand, seat matrix, and category reservation.

Notice these category cutoffs sit much closer together than KCET's GM-vs-SC gap on the previous page — PGCET's much smaller applicant pool per seat compresses the spread between categories compared to KCET's undergraduate-scale competition.

Notice how wide the RVCE range is — 14 to over 7,000 across all specialisations and categories combined at a single college. That spread reflects how much specialisation choice matters at the M.Tech level: a niche specialisation with few applicants closes at a much more accessible rank than a popular one like Computer Science-adjacent specialisations, even at the same college.
What actually moves a cutoff
- Stream and specialisation: MBA, MCA and each M.Tech/M.E./M.Arch specialisation have entirely separate cutoffs.
- Category: GM cutoffs are typically the tightest; reserved categories have their own, generally more accessible, cutoffs.
- Round: round 1 cutoffs are usually tighter than later rounds.
- College reputation and location: cutoffs vary widely between well-known and other colleges, and between city and non-city campuses.
