Who DCET is for
DCET is aimed specifically at candidates who have completed (or are completing) a diploma in engineering from a recognised polytechnic, and want to continue directly into a B.E./B.Tech degree at the second-year level, rather than starting an undergraduate degree from scratch. Only Karnataka residents are eligible to sit DCET.
Diploma-in-Architecture holders can also enter B.Arch at the first-year level, but that route runs through NATA (Council of Architecture), not a DCET rank — DCET registration is still a required procedural step, but NATA is what actually qualifies you. See DCET eligibility for the detail.

How it relates to KCET
KCET candidates enter engineering degree programmes at the first-year level, straight from PUC/Class 12. DCET candidates enter at the second-year level, via a diploma. Both processes are run by KEA and follow a similar shape: online application, entrance exam, and centralised counselling (document verification, choice filling, round-wise seat allotment).
